LA LAUNCH
On Cinco de Mayo 2026, Vochos Unidos made its Los Angeles debut at Vintage Motor Union, an automotive clubhouse in the heart of LA's historic car district. The event brought together over 100 guests and dozens of Volkswagen Beetles for an evening that was equal parts book release, community celebration, and cultural homecoming.
Carrara Media partnered with Vintage Motor Union to host the launch, a space founded by Savant Young that has quickly become a hub for automotive enthusiasts and locals in Los Angeles. Situated within the LA Car District — a block that includes the YouTube channel BigTime and enamel pin designers Leen Customs, who produced the exclusive Vochos Unidos pin included with the Limited Edition, the venue felt like a natural fit for a book rooted in car culture and community.
The evening doubled as a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Aztec performers Xipe Totec opened the night with ceremonial dance and music, followed by mariachi, folk singers, and vendors serving mariscos and al pastor tacos. Author and photographer Rodrigo Gaya Villar spoke about the five years spent documenting vocho culture across Mexico. The street encounters, the club meetups, the road trips to pueblos mágicos, and the people who made the project what it is.
The connection between Los Angeles and vocho culture runs deep. Puebla, where Volkswagen produced over one million Beetles across 35 years until 2003, is the same city commemorated by Cinco de Mayo. That overlap wasn't lost on the crowd.
